Entry from: Hellissandur, Iceland Entry Title: “Birding on Snaefells Peninsula” Entry: “This 100 kilometer long peninsula is dominated by Snæfellsjökull, an icecap that is the setting for Jules Verne´s Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The drive there took us along the west coast of Iceland following the Ring Road north. Everything was green and I have never seen so many lupines in my life! Beautiful lavender hillsides! We left the Ring Road at Borgames and headed west to the peninsula, stopping along the way whenever we saw an interesting bird or a breathtaking landscape…many stops! We once again saw the ubiquitous arctic tern, loons, and lots more. And there are so many waterfalls! Basically everywhere you look there is some quantity of water tumbling down from the mountains – beautiful! At Buðir we turned north and drove toward the north coast of the peninsula heading for Olafsvik where we planned to spend the night. There was a huge waterfall at the turnoff, and a bit further we stopped at this fall…what a rocky landscape! Near the top of the pass, a gravel road, there was quite a bit of construction going on. Out of the corner of his eagle eye, Jack spotted some ducks in a creek down a steep embankment on the side of the road…harlequins! What a beautiful creature! We stopped at the

So this is the easiest way to feed your birds BUT, it gets better! I now feed my birds Harrison’s pellets. These are 100% organic, with no artificial flavors or colors and are made of pure healthy ingredients. These are the best!! You can order them online or some specialty pet food stores sell them but not usually. I do not feed my birds ZuPreem anymore. It’s an ok food but it’s certainly not as good as an organic one! If you can afford it, go for Harrison’s!!!

I don’t know what kind of bird you have or what kind of cancer it has, but any lumps or suspicious mass on a bird should be examined by an avian vet.

bird sites uk and Identifying a bird call?

Question by Andy M Thompson: Identifying a bird call?
On holiday in the central / south of France I kept hearing a bird call and I have no idea what it was. It sounded coarse, like a crow’s craw but was less random the same 3 or 4 crawks (so hard to describe in words) in a row three or four times – sort of “crawk, craaaawk, craaawk – pause, crawk, craaaawk, craaawk pause, crawk, craaaawk, craaawk”. It sounds like it came from the ground rather than up in a tree and like it might be a bigger bird, at least as large as a crow. We heard it a lot at dusk and dawn and occasionally during the day. We were surrounded by farmland with some ponds very nearby so it could be a water bird. There was also a sound similar to a cuckoo at the same time but I’m not sure if that was the same bird or something else! I don’t expect anyone to be able to say what it was for me but if anyone could recommend good websites for looking up this sort of thing (googling, I can find great sites for the US but not for Europe) and the UK sites might not have it as it was France in summer so might be a bird that doesn’t visit the UK. I’ve never heard anything exactly like it in the UK.

I thought it Corncrake but it wasn’t – it might be something like that – all suggestions welcome!
HA HA nightmare, you’re a wag! Still a joke response is better than no response – I suppose….

I did try to creep up on it but the thing always shut up when I got close and in the summer there’s so much foliage for birds to hide in it’s hard to get a look let alone a photo.
and it’d be youre lame not yourlame…

Answer by Lori Dixon
Too bad you didn’t get a look at it, sure would be a lot easier to find what it was in a book of birds – wonder if you could google that and see if they describe their sounds? Got to be something like that – you’d think anyway! Good luck finding it, I would kind of like to know myself.

What do you think? Answer below!
